Time to plan ahead to prevent common summer injuries and problems.
Survey the yard. Check for loose fencing, garden tools, and poisonous plants. Wooden playsets can be a source of splinters. Occasionally sand sides of the playset to keep exposed edges smooth. Keep sandboxes covered when not in use. Have children stay inside while mowing.
Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside, even when not swimming. Have both UVA and UVB protection. Reapply often. Wear hats when in the sun. Minimize exposure between 10 AM and 3PM. Get in the shade often.
Encourage fluid intake, even when not thirsty.
Use child-safe insect repellent. Have first aid supplies available.
Wear a helmet while riding bicycles.
Everyone buckles up while in the car.
Have fun!
